DIY Marketing Strategy for Interior Designers

If you want to grow your business, you can’t ignore your brand. We understand that running your interior design business is the priority and marketing can be a little down your to-do list. However, it’s absolutely necessary for building your brand and attracting new clients.

If you want to take the DIY direction and create a proper plan of action, this article is for you. Here are 6 tips about how to manage your brand while running your business.

1. Start with the foundations

Before diving into content or social media, get clear on your brand:

  • What's your design style?

  • Who is your ideal client?

  • What do you want to be known for?

Define your tone of voice, visual style (colours, fonts, logo) and core messaging. This makes social media posts, website content and email marketing so much easier to create and keep consistent.

2. Batch your content

Block out time once or twice a month to create and schedule content. Focus on:

  • Project highlights

  • Behind-the-scenes updates

  • Client testimonials

  • Quick design tips

  • Moodboards or material sneak peeks

Use a scheduling tool (we like to use Planable) to automate posting so you’re not glued to your phone every day.

3. Use templates and systems

Create branded templates for social media posts, emails and presentations. This not only saves time but keeps your content looking cohesive and professional.

4. Prioritise platforms that work for you

You don’t have to post on every platform. Focus on where your ideal clients hang out. When I started promoting Studio Sulis on social media, I focused on LinkedIn and Pinterest because this is where most of our enquiries were coming from. Usually for Interior Designers it’s best to start with Instagram, Pinterest and a well-designed website. Whatever you choose, make sure you include:

  • A clear portfolio

  • Your design process

  • A contact form

  • Strong calls to action

5. Document your work as you go

Take progress photos, record short videos and jot down design decisions. Give clients an insight into how you work. This kind of material can become powerful marketing content.

6. Consistency over perfection

You don’t need to post every day. However you do need to show up consistently, even if it’s once or twice a week. Whatever that looks like for you, stick to a schedule that’s realistic and sustainable.

Final Note

Marketing doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With the right strategy, it can even become a natural extension of your creativity. Clients are investing in you — your style, expertise and the experience of working with you. An effective strategy will help you stand out and connect with the right people.
